Happy Pi Day: Numberphiles, Calculating Pi with Pies
I just happened to have stumbled upon this YT channel the other day, and wound up spending nearly 3 hours on it. Obviously, I enjoy it. Since today is Pi Day (3.14), thought I'd share this one. But there's loads more interesting things to be seen on the channel, including nine more videos about Pi itself, and Dragon Curves, and base 12, and lots of other fun math-y things. Even if you're not a math geek, it's more fun than you probably think it sounds.

Sam Harris- It is Always Now
Generally speaking, I am not much for inspiration quotes and speeches. But, from time to time, I do stumble upon something that I even my, dark, cynical self, can't help but derive a little flicker of positivity from. Rest assured that said positivity is always quickly, and unceremoniously crushed and forgotten by natural state of pure negativity. But, hey- a flicker counts for something, right?

Fangoria's Bloog and Guts: Scott Ian Gets His Face Knifed By Rob Hall
Oddly enough, I am actually not a huge fan of horror movies; at least not to the extent that most people like to assume I'll be. But I do love gore and Anthrax, and I've always had a thing for visual effects. So this show encompasses MANY of my favorite things, and I like it.

A Brief History of Video Games
“An abridged history of video games in under three minutes. Made using only sounds, music and video from the video games themselves. Produced for Polygon.com by Reverse Enginears featuring P Sus.”
The more of these games and sounds you can identify from memory, the more ANCIENT A creature you must be.. For the record, I knew them all.

Geek and Sundry: Table Top
Now I know what you're thinking, and I didn't think watching a handful of geeks play boardgames sounded particularly exciting either, and was fully set to be all snarky and judgmental about it. But after watching it, I thought they did an exceptional job of making doing exactly that, not just entertaining, but more entertaining than it should be. So much so, that I think that even if you never liked boardgames or RPG's, you'll still find it entertaining. In fact, I've actually watched both of the episodes currently out, twice now. Which, I realize as I type that sentence, is an excellent indication of why my dating life so lively. But I really don't see how that's relevant to anything, and I resent you for pointing it out. Now go watch the show, and stop judging me.
Jerks.

Rob Zombie Does Tom Baker For Nerdist
I know, I've already plugged this once. And no, I don't know anyone involved in this, nor am I trying to virtually kiss anyone's ass. But in case you hadn't noticed, I'm a big fan of indie, well, everything. And since YouTube is my television, I'm always excited to find new content creators I really enjoy, and in the case of the Nerdist Channel, I'm already a fan of everything about it. Plus, c'mon, it's Rob Zombie doing an impression of a former Doctor Who. If I didn't post that here, someone would take my geek-card AND my Metal-card away.

Things That WILL be Awesome: NERDIST on YouTube
Posted by YouTube user:Nerdist
I suspect most of you already know this, but just in case you don’t. Two days from now, Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Industries will begin airing original video content via it’s new channel on YouTube. I’m a big fan of Hardwick’s and the Nerdist, and the shows thus far announced for the channel look awesome. So if you haven’t already, then go do as Zombie Hardwick says, and subscribe to the Nerdist channel on YouTube
As for those of you who are somehow unaware of Chris Hardwick or the Nerdist podcast. First of all, I forgive you, only just, but I do. Seriously though, how did you even get here? And are you sure you’re really a geek? Now go Nerdist.com to atone for your ignorance.
You can thank me later.

YouTube Banning Videos From ThunderFoot’s For Being, “Religiously Offensive”
Posted by Youtube user: Thunderf00t
For those of you unfamiliar, Thunderfoot’s is a popular Atheist/science/freethought/Free Speech channel on Youtube. Obviously, that means the views expressed within his videos are typically offensive to the average believer’s sensibilities, when it comes to the level of respect they feel their precious ideals deserve; that level being absolute and unyielding, of course.
But fragile sensibilities of the credulous aside, the reality is that Thunbderfoot is one of the more thoughtful and deliberate critics of religion you’ll find on the net. Who, at worst, one could fairly complain occasionally allows his language to stray towards the PG-13 end of the spectrum. He’s certainly nowhere near as disrespectful towards others as say, oh, I don’t know… ME. So the idea that his videos are now being removed by YouTube moderators for “Religious HATE SPEECH” is so absurd, it would be comical, if it wasn’t so infuriating or so ominous a sign of things to come, where the future of free speech on YT and the net in general is concerned. But that’s exactly what happened.
And it’s going to start happening more and more. Not just on YT but all over the net, if we don’t start making noise about this sort of thing right now.
So I’ll delve deeper into my own opinions on all this later. For now, go watch, like, favorite, and share the video above. Subscribe to Thunderfoot’s Channel if you’re not already, and if you really care, you can download copies of the blocked videos in the details section of the video above, and then mirror them to your own channel. Which I have just started doing myself, HERE.

A Year of Gunplay With FreddieW
Between parent companies pulling videos off the net, and conspiracy theorists barely coherent videos about photographic anomalies, supposed alien civilizations, and that whole Bigfoot on Mars thing, it was actually surprisingly hard to find any good fact-based videos on Mars. So instead, let's abandon our life on other worlds theme for a moment, and enjoy some fun with guns, and FreddieW.
Enjoy.
