Phil Plait's Bad Universe EP2, Tonight After Mythbusters

There just isn't much on television I like In fact, I will soon be without TV again as I have grown tired of wasting my money on something I only use around 10% of and have decided to cancel my television service. But tonight one of the rare exceptions to my general disdain for television airs, episode 2 of Phil Plait's three part series, "Phil Plait's Bad Universe" will air tonight immediately following one of the only other reasons I have kept my cable on for as long as I have, Mythbusters.

So if your a fan of science, and like me would to see more of it, or anything else worth watching on your television, then be sure not only to tune in, but blog about it, tweet about it and do everything else you can to let advertisers and the Discovery channel know, you want more! Because remember, this is basically a three part pilot we're watching, so if you want to see it become a series, then you need to make as much noise about it as possible. I would like to suggest that in order to try and make it trend, we all tweet something about the show with some form of Hash tag: #Philplaitsbaduniverse, #baduniverse, or whatever, whenever the show goes to commercial or Phil says the "secrete phrase", I trust you know the secrete phrase by now.

Bad Universe/My Continued Absence

Blogging via iPhone while not impossible, is kind of a pain in the ass (it took me 45 minutes just to create this post) so I haven't been doing it. But IF things go as planned, then come Saturday I should finally be able to connect to the net via PC again. So once again please excuse my continued neglect but I will hopefully be able to return to my previous posting habits very soon.

In the meantime...

Sunday night was the premier of Phil plait's bad universe on the discovery channel which is a three part pilot based on Phil's book death from the skies. The theme for episode one was asteroid impacts and what, if anything, could be done to avert an asteroid based disaster. This of course meant lots of explosions and cool high speed footage to analyze but there was also plenty of science to go around as well, think The Universe meets Mythbusters. I really enjoyed the first episode and with any luck enough of us will tune in that it gets picked up and turned into a series. So if you missed Sunday's premier be sure to check out the next two episodes Sunday nights at ten, depending where you are of course.
Here's a preview...

In keeping with the asteroid theme, here's a cool animation from scott Manley of the Armagh observatory which plots all of the asteroids discovered over the past thity years. Also check out this article from wired science for more info on this animation.

George Hrab:Death From The Skies

In June I told you about George Hrab and his new album Trebuchet. During said entry I singled out the track "Death From the Skies", featuring Phil Plait, as one of my favorites on the album. Here's a video of George recording drums for the track which Phil recently linked to on Bad Astronomy. Enjoy!

Phil Plait's Bad Universe.

I am big fan of astronomer Phil Plait and his blog Bad Astronomy. For month's now Phil has been dropping cryptic hints on his blog about what he could only refer to as his, "Sooper Sekrit Project". A few Days ago he was finally able to reveal What that project would be and it looks awesome. If you haven't already, then check out the preview for Phil's forth coming three-part Discovery program," Phill Plait's Bad Universe".
