Sci-fi Short R'ha by Kaleb Lechowski
Even if you know nothing about video production or computer animation whatsoever, it should go without saying that the six minute indie sci-fi short above titled "R'ha", is impressive by pretty much any metric you'd like to apply. So the fact that other than some help with the music and the voice acting, it was created entirely by one 22 year old German film student named Kaleb Lechowski, makes it astounding. Unbelievable job.

Quantic Dream: Kara, PS3 Tech Demo
Kara, is essentially a seven minute long animated short film, created by Quantic Dream -creators of the game Hard Rain- to show off their new graphic engine and hopefully, in the case of Kara anyway, the level of voice acting they plan to strive for in their next title. Because that was one of the most common criticism from fans of the game -including me- and those who hated it, alike. And then there was also that bit where you had to control your character during a sex scene... But that was just, weird.
Higgs Boson And The Research Surrounding it Explained, in Cartoon Form
In all seriousness. I've written about the Higgs and particle physics in general, several times before. But the Higgs Boson, and the quantum world in which it exists, is without question, such a complex subject, that it's always worth revisiting.

Eye Candy: Ruin
So I actually found this animated short from OddBall Animation a while ago, and just haven't managed to get around to posting it. Simply put, it's amazing. Probably even more so if ,unlike mine, your Internet provider has not throttled you down to point where you cannot watch things in HD. But what makes this 8 minute short even more impressive, is the fact that it's mostly the result of the work of just one person. Though the films creator and director Wes Ball, does point out that he had a bit of help on the model rendering for the drone and main character, as well as a single intern to help with some of the animation. CHEATER!
Seriously, it took one person two years worth of work to make this. I can't even manage to post a single blog entry once a day, much less design my own, photo realistically detailed digital world, from scratch.
I am Jack's deep, burning, sense of shame and inadequacy.

As for those of you who are somehow unaware of Chris Hardwick or the Nerdist podcast. First of all, I forgive you, only just, but I do. Seriously though, how did you even get here? And are you sure you’re really a geek? Now go Nerdist.com to atone for your ignorance.

Which is precisely why intended to make sharing new episodes of the series part of my weekly posting habits. Aaaaannnnd... then I didn't. Cause... I forgot..and... stuff.

I'M DOING IT NOW!
Why are you always judging me?

Apocalypse Later, Surf Now, An Apocalyptic Surf Music Video
Surfing, doesn't even come close to making the list of things I've EVER had an interest in. I hate the beach, I don't swim, I don't like the sun. But hey, throw in an aerial battle of apocalyptic proportions, and suddenly, you have my interest. Love this.
I still don't care about the surfing thought.

Heterosexual Marriage and 200 Foreskins
So once again the pope and all his friends have had their say on the evils of gay marriage and the dire moral importance of maintaining the sanctity of so-called traditional unions. But what is it exactly that makes the biblical traditions associated with heterosexual marriage so morally supperior anyway? To answer that question, I give you volume two of "The Tutor". Which recounts a heart warming biblical tale (1 Samuel 18) of love, a possible gay affair between the bible's David and king Saul's son Jonathan, and an epic quest for foreskins.
Enjoy!

Fafa and Mario: The Evolution of The Hipster
Posted by Youtube user: gloveandboots
From this week's Compendium:
With every generation there comes a new group of pretentious and annoying human beings that we all soon learn to love to hate. This time around, we’re calling theme hipsters.
To learn more about the newest unwashed, self-important group of Ironically-anti-conformist-over privileged-white-pseudo-hippie-douche-bags to hit the scene, join Fafa and Mario from Glove and Boots as they explain; “The Evolution of The Hipster”.
On a personal note: I realize that some of you will find my description of this particular sub-culture as dismissive and offensive, which is an excellent indication that you too may BE a hipster. So on this point I’d just like to say:
Yes it is, and I’m not sorry.

Felicia Day, Sean Astin- Behind The Scenes: When Galaxies Collide
Posted by Youtube user: SpitzerScienceCenter
With Yesterday’s successful launch of the shuttle Atlantis into space, the final mission for NASA’s long run shuttle program, I thought I should share something sciency, and spacey; given that I don't really have any original thoughts to share where the end of the shuttle program is concerned.
So here’s a funny little video from the Spitzer Science Center in which Felicia Day, tries to explain some of the real science behind Galactic Collisions to an overzealous producer looking for something a little more sensational. It’s also a depressingly accurate depiction of how the worlds of mainstream media and entertainment tend to treat such topics.

"Plot Device", From Red Giant Software
In this short from Red Giant Software, a young film maker orders a strange device from the internet which ultimately turns his world into a revolving door of cinematic conflicts which each click of the mysterious device's single red button. While I’m not sure of the budget behind this one, or exactly how many people are involved, and I think it’s ultimately just meant to be a commercial for the company’s editing software. The end result is a funny, original, well made short, filled with genuinely impressive visuals. I really like it, and I thought you might as well. So check it out.
