In Other Neil deGrasse Tyson News...

Neil shows up in Action Comics #14, to help superman find Krypton. Which, it turns out,

“is found 27.1 light-years from Earth, in the southern constellation Corvus (The Crow), orbiting  the red dwarf star LHS 2520, which is cooler and smaller than our sun.”

Just in case you’re not sure, comic books aren’t real, so neither is planet Krypton. Though its a safe bet that it will be someday, in name anyway, should we ever actually find a planet orbiting LHS 2520, which is a real life star, located 2.7 years from Earth, ETC, Etc.

Thomas Jane's Punisher Fan-film: Dirty Laundry

Posted by YouTube user: AdiShankarBrand

I know, I know, you've probably heard more than enough from me about movies this week. What with all the podcast episodes and all (hint, hint). But this was one of the many awesome things that happened while I was away, and, yes- I know you've probably already seen it, but I LOVED this. So I'm posting it. Plus, there's a fairly decent chance we'll be bringing it up this week on Pod Thing... I'm just sayin'.

I hated both of the Punisher movies. I'm tempted to say I hated all 3, but I suspect most of you aren't even aware the one with Dolph Lundgren exists. Rest assured, it sucked too. As for the last Punisher, it was a poorly executed mess, and Jane's was, well,  It was a Punisher movie for children. But if he can actually manage to convince a studio to make a Punisher movie that isn't written for children, and looks like this. I might finally get to join everyone else in being excited about the whole comic book movie thing.

This Week's Brushes Doodle: Felicia Day as "Invisalingua" With Tiny Infinite Wheaton

"Invisalingua" Have I mentioned bloggers ability to display  images clearly sucks?
Okay, so this week's Brushes painting is actually a bit more than a doodle, cause I actually spent some time on this one. In fact, this might be the first thing I've taken beyond unfinished sketch, in almost 10 years. It's not perfect, and a little silly, but I'm not gonna lie- I'm kinda proud of this one.

But you don't care about that. Cause, right now, you just wanna know what's up with all the pink and lady superheroes- Not that there's anything wrong with that. But let's be honest, it does kind of contradict my usual aesthetic around here. So let me explain.

Felicia Day has a YouTube channel called, Geek and Sundry. On which, she has what is essentially a video blog called, The Flog. Last week, she made up a superhero for herself and encouraged viewers to draw said superhero, and submit their efforts on twitter, where they are now being collected and placed on a Pintrest board. The superhero in question, "Invisalingua"- don't look at me, Felicia named her- can speak all languages, turn invisible, and has a tiny male sidekick named Tiny Man. Since I've been trying to make myself draw something at least once a week anyway, I decided to make Felicia's alter ego my art project for the week.

Thus explains what's with the lady superhero and the tiny Wil Wheaton. As for all the pink... Well, ALL girls like pink; FACT. so.. Ya...

Why am I single again?

In case you're curious:  The "painting" itself, once again, was done using the Brushes app on my iPhone. Which I really should write a proper review of one day, for those of you who might be curious about it. This time around though, I did have to employ a minor assist from Photoshop, for tiny man and the logo on her chest. Because, one of the downsides to illustrating something on a 3.5 inch touch screen, is the level of detail work you can do is kinda limited by pixel depth; having giant man hands doesn't help things much either. Seriously,  the fingernails on her hands, for example, are literally 3-4 pixels wide. So, tiny man, perfect circles, and crisp lettering, just wasn't happening.

New Trailer: The Dark Knight Rises

Posted by YouTube user: WarnerBrosPictures

Usually, I manage to stay at least a week behind the rest of the world when it comes to current events of any sort. And I'm really not what you'd call a movie buff; given that I watch an average of  MAYBE four movies a year; the last two movies I saw in a theater were the X-files sequel and the first Hellboy. But a new Batman movie obviously falls well within the realm of "General Geekery". So I thought, what the hell. Let's be current for once.

As for my own impression of the new trailer.

Nolan's Batman series has, hands down, been the best at building as believable a reality as possible for a superhero* to exist in, and this newest installment looks to be on par with the other two. Cinematically, I think it looks impressive as well, and I certainly think it's going to make several metric shit-tons of money. But the truth is, while I've enjoyed a number of recent comic-book-based movies, I've found myself  largely uninterested in Superhero* movies. I dunno, maybe I'm just too old, or just too picky. Either way, I know I'm WAY in the minority where my lack of excitement is concerned.

But what do you think? Are you counting the days until the Dark Knight's release? Or, like me, do you find yourself  too distracted by giggling fits whenever Christian Bale uses his "Batman Voice", to go in for a third round? If so, I predict you're actually giggling about my usage of the phrase, " the Dark Knight's Release", at this very moment. Which makes you highly immature. And I respect that.

* I realize that Batman is technically not a "superhero". I was referring to the movie genre. So go unleash your nerd-rage elsewhere.

Shaun/Fuzz/Pilgrim Poster by, Alex Pardee

An unbelievably awesome poster by Artist Alex Pardee for an event at the Castro Movie Palace in San Francisco. Where writer/director Edgar Wright will be appearing for a showing of all three films, as well as Q &a and various other goodies.

Prints of the poster will also be sold at the event, and via Pardee’s web store Zerofriends , assuming there are any left over, which I wouldn’t.
