This Week's Brushes Doodle: Skerah - The Anti-You

"Skerah /Scare-Ah"- The Anti-you
Haven't posted one of these in a while. So if you don't know, while this one actually started as a regular sketch, I then finished and then "inked" in App, the artwork I typically post on the site is done using the Brushes app for iPhone. So, yes, I did all of this using my finger on a tiny touchscreen, which is still no excuse for my lack of ability. As for today's offering-

This week's Brushes doodle MAY, in fact, be inspired by my friend Tara, who is far more awesomer than my substandard character drawing of her may indicate. I obviously didn't quite finish it, and there are a variety of things I would like to fix, but, I've been trying to push myself to get at least one drawing done a week and the week is nearly over, so. Also, it's important to note that she does not actually have giant misshapen man hands or a huge ET head and neck, I'm just a hack when it comes this whole drawing thing.

This Week's Brushes Doodle: Felicia Day as "Invisalingua" With Tiny Infinite Wheaton

"Invisalingua" Have I mentioned bloggers ability to display  images clearly sucks?
Okay, so this week's Brushes painting is actually a bit more than a doodle, cause I actually spent some time on this one. In fact, this might be the first thing I've taken beyond unfinished sketch, in almost 10 years. It's not perfect, and a little silly, but I'm not gonna lie- I'm kinda proud of this one.

But you don't care about that. Cause, right now, you just wanna know what's up with all the pink and lady superheroes- Not that there's anything wrong with that. But let's be honest, it does kind of contradict my usual aesthetic around here. So let me explain.

Felicia Day has a YouTube channel called, Geek and Sundry. On which, she has what is essentially a video blog called, The Flog. Last week, she made up a superhero for herself and encouraged viewers to draw said superhero, and submit their efforts on twitter, where they are now being collected and placed on a Pintrest board. The superhero in question, "Invisalingua"- don't look at me, Felicia named her- can speak all languages, turn invisible, and has a tiny male sidekick named Tiny Man. Since I've been trying to make myself draw something at least once a week anyway, I decided to make Felicia's alter ego my art project for the week.

Thus explains what's with the lady superhero and the tiny Wil Wheaton. As for all the pink... Well, ALL girls like pink; FACT. so.. Ya...

Why am I single again?

In case you're curious:  The "painting" itself, once again, was done using the Brushes app on my iPhone. Which I really should write a proper review of one day, for those of you who might be curious about it. This time around though, I did have to employ a minor assist from Photoshop, for tiny man and the logo on her chest. Because, one of the downsides to illustrating something on a 3.5 inch touch screen, is the level of detail work you can do is kinda limited by pixel depth; having giant man hands doesn't help things much either. Seriously,  the fingernails on her hands, for example, are literally 3-4 pixels wide. So, tiny man, perfect circles, and crisp lettering, just wasn't happening.

This Week's Brushes Doodle: Smiling White Demon

Was kind of stuck for ideas this week. So I ended up with this, weird, unfinished little thing. What can I say, I’m odd.

This Week's Brushes Doodle: Greenman

Yes, I suppose he is kind of yellow. But calling him yellow-man felt A LITTLE racist. Although with the eyes I suppose it's... Never mind, I'm making it worse.

Dammit, I thought I had this one schedule to post on it's own. Apparently, I did not. So technically, this is last week's phone doodle-thingy. Whew, glad that's cleared up. ANYWAY-

So obviously, I was full of fail again this week where blogging was concerned; and pretty much everything else for that mater. But I did manage to do another digital doodle with my iPhone. Ya, I know. But hey, at least I did SOMETHING other than watching House and playing Age of Booty this weekend. Which, sadly, is NOT a euphamism for my sex life, but a mini-game on the PSN. Although, if I spent as much time trying to meet women as I do playing pirate-themed video games, I suppose it could be... But I digress.

First, before you start flinging your poop and judgment at my artistic ability: In an effort to get back into the habit of drawing again -which is something I used to do a lot, but haven’t really done much in the past decade or so- I’ve been using the Brushes app on my iPhone to do a doodle of some form, at least once a week. Typically, as was the case with today's example, this happens over the course of about an hour, while swilling beer and eating horrible, greasy food, alone at Chili’s; cause that’s just how awesome and exciting my existence is. Besides, have you ever tried to finger paint something on a 3.5 inch touch screen?  It’s kind of a pain. And the Yuenglings probably don’t help the cause much either.

Oh well.

More science and such to come, shortly...

Sometime I Paint Things, But Only on my Phone

Didn’t do any blogging this weekend, been busy with other things. But I did take a break to play with the Brushes app on my phone for a while. Here are the results. For the record, I can draw, though I haven't really done it much for the past few years, but I cannot paint IRL, hence the lack of technique. Well, that, and the fact that I did this with my finger on an iphone. Plus, this represents about an hour of effort at 3 am, so cut me some slack. Also, yes, it does look a little like Scully from X-files, this was not intentional.

Shaun/Fuzz/Pilgrim Poster by, Alex Pardee

An unbelievably awesome poster by Artist Alex Pardee for an event at the Castro Movie Palace in San Francisco. Where writer/director Edgar Wright will be appearing for a showing of all three films, as well as Q &a and various other goodies.

Prints of the poster will also be sold at the event, and via Pardee’s web store Zerofriends , assuming there are any left over, which I wouldn’t.
